Stuck in the ’70s

In 2007, Penguin published Stuck in the ’70s, my humorous novel for teens about a wild Valley girl from the present who wakes up in a male honor student’s bathtub in 1978.

The official reviews are very good!

From Publishers Weekly:

“Moving from slice-of-life fiction to the realm of magical realism, Garfinkle (Storky) breaks new ground with this lighthearted time-travel tale. … While offering a mix of slapstick comedy and poignant moments as the mismatched teens try to figure out how to get Shay “back to the future,” the book raises thought-provoking questions about whether teen relationships, attitudes and romance have evolved for better or for worse over time. Ages 12-up.

From School Library Journal

“Told in alternating chapters by the two teens, this is a fun tale of love and finding one’s true identity.”

From Kirkus Reviews:

“The lives of two diametrically opposed teens intersect in this offbeat take on time travel. … The alternating voices of Shay and Tyler narrate this time-travel tale with credible insight into what makes teens tick in 1978 as well as 2006. Entertaining, despite the improbable plot.”

From KLIATT:

“A cheerful story about a hip teenager from our times who somehow is caught in a time warp and ends up living in a typical family in the 1970s. … Today’s readers will find the 1970s quaint in many ways, and they will laugh at the inevitable jokes: ‘So, what, your mom’s like a Martha Stewart?’ ‘Who’s Martha Stewart?’”

From Teensreadtoo.com:

“Garfinkle has nailed the seventies. … This story has a good message and it’s hard to put down. The characters are multi-faceted and believable. I really liked and rooted for both Tyler and Shay, hoping their lives will turn out to be great.”
